Capping rules control the number of times an individual user will see an insert. By configuring capping rules for inserts, you can engage users without spamming them.
Capping configuration is defined on the Settings page of an insert. You can define capping rules based on the following:
- Times per session: Control the number of times a user sees an insert in a single session. A session is started at app launch and each time the app returns to the foreground after being in the background for 15 minutes or more.
- Times in total: Control the number of times a user sees an insert for the duration of app install. For example, the App Walkthrough insert is typically only shown to a user once when they open your app for the first time.
- Goal-based: Stop showing an insert once a goal is completed by the user. For instance, when a user answers a survey you typically do not want to show them the same survey again. Note that goal-based capping starts to apply the session after a user completes a goal. For this reason, it is usually advisable to combine goal-based capping with a capping rule that limits insert occurrence to once per session.
- Recurrence: Control the time interval between consecutive insert occurrences for a user. This helps you to limit the frequency with which a user will see an insert across app sessions.
You can combine capping settings as necessary.
